Potatoes. Who would have thought you could take something so common and turn it into a creative stamp? My daughter loved doing this project and so did I. I would say this is great for all ages. You can not only do shirts but I have actually seen people design their own stamps and make pillows and other home decor items. I have even seen them used as stencils on walls.
Since Valentines Day is coming up, my daughter wanted a shirt that she could wear to school. Since we are living in South Korea, it is a little hard to find the cute shirts like we could at Target in the past. I think she actually enjoyed this a lot more because she was actually able to make her own. Below are the super simple directions.
Cookie Cutters (or you can be adventurous and create your own designs)
Knife (obviously for the parent, do not let your child use it!)
Paintbrushes ( These are optional)
Cut the Potatoes in half, then push the cookie cutters into the potato.
Use the knife to cut around the cookie cutter so you have your very own stamp.
Make sure when preparing the shirt, you put a piece of cardboard in between the front and back to prevent any bleeding of the paint. This also helps to keep the shirt smooth so your child can stamp away without the shirt moving around.
Dip the potato stamp into the paint and stamp the shirt. That easy!
If you want to touch up any of the stamps, you can use the paintbrushes for that.
When I was growing up my Mom had a silhouette of my Great Grandma. I always loved looking at it. It amazed me how much I could see my own Mother’s face in it. I also loved the old fashioned style. When my son was in kindergarten his teacher had a woman come in who does silhouettes for a living. I still have that one today but have always wanted to do an updated one of him and one of my daughter. They were very easy to make and I am quite happy with the results.
I took a photo of each of the children from the same distance. Then I uploaded the photo to Photoshop and selected just their silhouette, and filled it in with black. I printed out the photo and used it to trace around black card stock. I then cut out the silhouette and glued it to a piece of white card stock. I put them in two matching frames and hung them in my entryway.
I love how once you take away all their features and just look at their profile, you can almost see yourself when you were little. This was an easy project that will capture my children’s silhouettes for years to come.
I saw a tree similar to this one on Pinterest and decided to try to make my own. I used different colors and textures of paper. I even used old book pages. All you need is a few items and in less than an hour you will have your very own Valentines Day Tree. See below for the DIY steps.
Step One: Gather all your supplies.
White or any color poster board
different colors of construction paper for the hearts (card stock paper seemed too stiff. I liked using the construction paper a lot better.)
any other kind of paper you would like to use. I used pink crepe paper and old book pages.
a heart paper punch
glue (I used regular elmers glue)
Any height of wine glass for base
Step 2: Cut your poster board so you can roll it up into a cone shape. I used a tupperware lid as the template for the curve.
Step 3: Roll poster board into a cone shape to fit over top of the wine glass. Use scotch tape to tape the sides together.
Step 4: Cut out a bunch of heart shapes from all the different kinds of paper then glue them on the tree upside down. You can experiment with the distance between the hearts and how they overlap. It all depends on how you like it. Keep gluing the hearts on the tree until it is completely covered. Once you get to the top, you can glue two hearts right side up as a tree topper.
*As you can see in the picture, my 7 year old daughter made her own tree. It was a really nice project for her because it doesn’t matter how you glue the hearts. The tree turns out beautiful no matter how you glue them. There is not a picture of hers because it was a little tiring for her lol. She is going to do hers a little bit each day.
Step 5: Stand back and admire your completed Valentines Day Tree 🙂
Artkive is one of the coolest apps I have discovered lately for my iphone and ipad. My daughter like all children LOVES to color and make art project after art project. She gets really upset when I tell her its time to take down the old picture and replace it with one of her new creations. Of course she wants me to keep every single picture for the rest of eternity 🙂 This app is so awesome because now I can take a picture of her artwork, tag it and store it. Then if I want to, I can actually use her artwork and turn it into books, gifts, or other keepsakes in their store. I love this app so much! If you would like to download it for your iphone or ipad you can find it in itunes. For more info about this app, please visit their site by clicking their picture above.
This app has become one of my new favorites that I have been using every single day. With this app, you get 15 months of pre-programmed household tasks (over 10,000 of them). In addition to the already pre-programmed tasks, you can add unlimited custom tasks and assign them to people and rooms. It is so cool because you can name the rooms whatever you would like to. Instead of using room names, I set mine up to be times of the day, morning, afternoon, evening, and all day. That way I can plan my day a lot easier. You can assign each task to a person in the family and color code it. I love that they have all the tasks already set up for me. It makes life so much easier. My house is always clean and I can relax knowing it only takes me a short amount of time each day to accomplish all my goals. They have a lite version on itunes that is free or the paid version for $7.99. It may seem like a high price for an app, but trust me the paid version is so worth it! You can download this app on itunes for your ipad or iphone. Please check out their site for more information on this app by clicking their photo above.
The Catch Notes app is great for busy people or people who just love creating lists. You can create voice, photo, or text notes online and offline using this app. You can also email your checklists to family members. I love to use that option when sending my husband to the grocery store to pick up a few items. There is also an option to set a reminder so you never forget to do something important. You can make personal spaces, or categories to keep your lists organized. The Catch website is automatically updated with a backup of your notes just in case you should lose your phone or accidentally delete the app. Their sync to their site is secure and they also have the option to password protect your notes with a 4 digit pin. For more information on this app and screenshots of the app, please visit their site by clicking on their photo above.
The last app I will be talking about is the Grocery Gadget app. I use this app every time I go to the grocery store. It is amazing. It helps save time in the store by learning item order as you check each one off your list. Next time you go to the grocery store, all items on your list are put in the proper order. No more searching around your list for items. You can also arrange aisles manually for each store. This app has the ability to sync your lists with unlimited devices which is a great feature when my husband and I go shopping together. Anytime I check an item off of the list, his list on his device updates in a matter of seconds. This makes grocery shopping so fast! I love that part since grocery shopping is my least favorite thing to do. It also has a feature where you can take a photo of the item and save it. That is great for times when you send someone else to do your shopping and want to make sure they buy the exact brand you want. You can make multiple lists and name them for each store you go to. It also has a spot where you can save recipes and even look up coupons. How great is that! To learn more about this app you can go to itunes or click their picture above to go to their website.
Last night for dinner I was going to make the usual breakfast for dinner when I decided to do a quick search on Pinterest. I ran across a site called Recipe By Photo with these adorable mini bacon and egg cups. They only took a few minutes to prepare and in 30 minutes I had an amazing dinner. The kids were quite impressed with the little bacon made cups. I added homemade biscuits and it was a hit!
